Ricky Gervais continues to stir the pot as he pokes fun at Will Smith’s Oscars meltdown by sharing an alopecia joke from The Office
Ricky Gervais cracked jokes about Will Smith’s extraordinary Oscars meltdown as he shared an old quip about alopecia from his sitcom, The Office.
During Sunday night’s Academy Awards ceremony, Will, 53, slapped Chris Rock, 57, after the comedian made a bald head joke about Will’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who has spoken about losing her hair due to alopecia.
While Hollywood and the rest of the world reacted in shock to the scenes, Ricky continued in his vein of seeing the humour within controversial subjects as he poked fun at the saga.
Finding the laughs: Ricky Gervais poked fun at the Will Smith’s extraordinary Oscars meltdown as he shared an old joke about alopecia from his sitcom, The Office
On Monday, the 60-year-old comedian took to Twitter to share a clip from his BBC sitcom The Office, in which he played bumbling office manager David Brent.
The short video saw David announce to a group of stunned employees: ‘Particularly for his wife. And she’s got alopecia. So… not a happy homelife.’
The clip was taken from season two, episode two of the hit show, in which he attempts to curry favour with his employees by taking them out for a lunchtime drinking session.
In his trademark cringe-inducing style, David tells his disgruntled employees: ‘Welcome to Alcoholics Anonymous! No – purely social.
‘I know someone who is an alchoholic and it is no laughing matter – particularly for his wife. And she’s got alopecia. So… not a happy homelife.’

While Ricky did not add any context to the clip, it came as Hollywood stars weighed in with their takes on the shocking scenes from Sunday night’s Oscars ceremony.
Jada, 50, was seen rolling her eyes when Chris made a joke about her shaved head, quipping: ‘Jada, can’t wait for G.I. Jane 2.’
The actress has previously revealed that she shaved her head as a result of suffering from autoimmune disorder alopecia, which causes hair loss.

While Will initially laughed at the remark, moments later he was seen storming the stage where he promptly slapped Chris across the face before returning to his seat and shouting: ‘Keep my wife’s name out of your f**king mouth.’
He has since apologised for his actions, saying his behavior was ‘unacceptable and inexcusable’ and left him ’embarrassed’.
Both Chris and Jada are yet to comment publicly on the matter.

Meanwhile, Ricky’s comments come after he launched a scathing attack on the Oscars bosses on Sunday night, slamming the $140,000 gift bags handed out to the nominees.
The comedian was asked what he’d say if he was emceeing the 94th Academy Awards in Los Angeles this year after he made unforgiving digs at his fellow stars while hosting the Golden Globes Awards in 2020.
He wrote on Twitter: ‘I’d start with “Hello. I hope this show helps cheer up the ordinary people watching at home. If you’re unemployed for example, take some comfort in the fact that even if you had a job, your salary probably wouldn’t be as much as the goody bag all the actors have just been given.

‘”I’m proud to announce that this is the most diverse and progressive Oscars ever. Looking out I see people from all walks of life. Every demographic under the sun. Except poor people, obviously. F**k them.”‘
When asked if he could tweet further takes throughout the ceremony, Ricky added: ‘I’ll be asleep.’
Those nominated for their work took home the bag of swag even if they failed to pick up an award.
