Sam Burgess ADMITS to cheating on wife Phoebe in SAS Australia

Sam Burgess ADMITS to cheating on wife Phoebe during their four-year marriage as he opens up about his failures as a husband in brutal SAS Australia interrogation

Retired NRL star Sam Burgess will admit to cheating on his wife of four years, Phoebe Burgess, on Monday night’s episode of SAS Australia.

The 32-year-old has been plagued with rumours about his private life for years, but is set to finally set the record straight during a tense interrogation session during the launch episode.

In 2018, Sam was embroiled in a sexting scandal which involved a Melbourne woman who claimed he had cheated on his wife the year prior.

And in scenes set to air on Monday night, Sam is set to come clean about what happened as he discusses the end of his marriage.

In a trailer for the new season, Sam was seen saying: ‘The last 18 months I felt like a loser, my marriage broke down.

‘I had just retired from sport, my ex father in law had taken out an AVO against me, and whether you like it or not, losing can become a habit, so I’m here because I want to show myself I can still be a winner.’

Sam and Phoebe, 32, ended their marriage shortly after Christmas in 2018, just three months after the South Sydney Rabbitohs star was cleared of any involvement in an NRL ‘sexting’ affair.

In the immediate aftermath of the scandal in September 2018, Phoebe, who was then pregnant with her second child, pulled out of a public appearance but was otherwise publicly supportive of her husband in the weeks that followed.

Despite reconciling in early 2019, they called it quits for good the same year – weeks after welcoming their second child together.

Sam was originally identified as the player at the centre of the affair after it emerged his Facebook account was used to solicit a nude video chat with a 23-year-old woman in May 2018.

Leaked screenshots from the chat showed a man exposing himself and another man with his pants down.

It was never confirmed who the men in the footage were, but the social media account was verified in Sam’s name.

Just hours after the scandal came to light, Phoebe, who was then 26 weeks pregnant, pulled out of an appearance at Randwick Racecourse. She was expected to appear as an ambassador for Colgate toothpaste.

Burgess’s rugby-playing brothers both stood by him during the controversy.

While his wife Phoebe did not speak publicly about the incident specifically, she expressed support for her husband via social media.

During the scandal, the Rabbitohs star thanked his family for helping him through a ‘tricky few days’, before adding: ‘Fortunately, I’ve got a strong wife’.

‘What hurts me the most is seeing my wife upset,’ he said at the time.

The couple share two children together; Poppy, four, and son Billy, two.
