Same Sex Kiss Being Put Back In In Upcoming Pixar Movie ‘Lightyear’

A same sex kiss is reportedly being restored in the upcoming Pixar film Lightyear!

This news comes after the immense backlash Disney has received over their response to Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

It also comes after Pixar employees shared in a letter that they were “being barred from creating” LGBTQIA+ content by executives.

In CEO Bob Chapek‘s initial statement to staff regarding the controversial bill, he said that making corporate statements isn’t the way to go to effect change, but rather by the content they make.

“I believe the best way for our company to bring about lasting change is through the inspiring content we produce, the welcoming culture we create, and the diverse community organizations we support,” he said.

Pixar employees responded with their own letter, and in it, they said, via Variety, “We at Pixar have personally witnessed beautiful stories, full of diverse characters, come back from Disney corporate reviews shaved down to crumbs of what they once were. Even if creating LGBTQIA+ content was the answer to fixing the discriminatory legislation in the world, we are being barred from creating it.”

Pixar even released a statement supporting LGBTQIA+ employees, supporters and more, and denouncing discriminatory legislation, which you can read in full at the bottom of this post.

As for the upcoming Pixar movie Lightyear, while the same-sex relationship wasn’t in question, Variety reports a kiss between the couple was cut from the movie, and it’s now being put back in.

The site says the film “does feature a significant female character, Hawthorne (pictured here and voiced by Uzo Aduba), who is in a meaningful relationship with another woman. While the fact of that relationship was never in question at the studio, a kiss between the characters had been cut from the film.”

Following the Disney CEO’s handling of the current situation, the scene was reportedly put back into the movie last week. Bob Chapek has since apologized for how he handled the company’s response to the bill.
