Shock: Selling Sunset star Maya Vander has had a stillbirth

Pain: The reality star, 39, took to Instagram on Friday to announce the tragic news, professing she had ‘the hardest day of her life’ on Thursday, when she tragically lost her third child with her husband, who fans only know as Dave

In her heartbreaking Instagram post, Maya, who named her baby Mason Miller, penned: ‘Yesterday was the hardest day of my life. I had a still birth at 38 weeks. I always heard of it but never imagined I’ll be part of the statistics…

‘Instead of delivering a baby, I get to go home with a memory box… I do not wish this on anyone. What was a regular weekly checkup turned into a nightmare that I never imagine will happen to me…

‘Given I share my pregnancies in the show I knew I’ll have to post this and avoid “ when is your due date “ question. You will always be in our heart Mason Miller’.

Speaking to Us Weekly in November last year, Maya said: ‘Both me and my husband are very busy, which is a good thing. I do like a big family. That being said, I don’t know. We’ll see. I’m 50/50 with that.’

Opening up about family life, Maya added: ‘ My husband works from home and obviously with real estate, I work from home excluding showings. But I spend a lot of time with the family…

‘I just put my son in daycare three weeks ago for, like, half a day in the morning. It’s a small class. So far, so good, so hopefully it will stay this way. And my daughter, she’s 6 months old, and we’ve been full-time parents.’

She has been open about the couple’s fertility issues in the past and was seen encouraging other women, who were keen to start a family, to never give up.

On Mother’s Day, Maya marked the holiday by telling fans: ‘Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing moms out there.

‘Two years ago, I had back-to-back miscarriages, now I’m few days away from having baby No. 2. To all the women who are trying to get pregnant, don’t give up and stay positive.’

Maya is often seen documenting her family life on social media – sharing cute snaps with her children at home.

They don’t always appear on Selling Sunset with her, however, with Maya telling Women’s Health: ‘Apparently, it’s expensive to film a baby in production. They have to hire nurses. The baby can only be on up to 30 minutes. It’s a whole thing.’

Fans can see Maya discussing her pregnancy on the new series of Selling Sunset, which was released earlier this month.

Selling Sunset premiered in 2019 and sees the elite brokers attempting to sell luxury properties, worth millions of dollars, across LA.

WHAT IS A STILLBIRTH?

A stillbirth occurs when a baby is born dead after 24 weeks of pregnancy.

If a baby dies before 24 weeks of pregnancy, it is known as a miscarriage.

Not all stillbirths can be prevented, however, not smoking or drinking, as well as not sleeping on your back and attending all antenatal appointments can reduce the risk.

What are the signs?

Signs may include the baby not moving as much as normal.

Pregnant women should contact their doctor immediately if they notice a difference to their baby’s movement.

What are the causes?

Stillbirths do not always have an obvious cause but may occur due to complications with the placenta or a birth defect.

They are also more likely to occur if women suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes or an infection that affects the baby, such as flu.

Stillbirths are more likely to occur if women are having twins or multiple pregnancies, are overweight, smoke, are over 35 or have a pre-existing condition, such as epilepsy.

What happens after a stillbirth?

If a baby has died, women may wait for their labour to start naturally or they may be induced if their health is at risk.

Bereavement support groups are available to parents who have suffered stillbirths.

Some find it helpful to name their baby or take pictures with them.
