The Transformers franchise was an important series of movies for actor Shia LaBeouf. The first movie helped establish LaBeouf as a movie star, boosting the actor’s profile. But according to LaBeouf, the sequel wasn’t as well-thought-out as the first. Since Transformers 2 allegedly didn’t have a script, LaBeouf and his co-stars had to resort to improvising.
Shia LaBeouf left the franchise because there was nowhere else for his character to go
LaBeouf was a fixture in Michael Bay’s Transformers movies for quite some time. But although he was with the series from the beginning, he didn’t stick around for the end. He revealed the third film in the franchise, Dark of the Moon, would be his last. At the time, LaBeouf was adamant that his character had run its course.
“I just don’t think right now there’s anywhere to take Sam,” LaBeouf told MTV News. “The movies I’ve been involved in, it’s never been plotted and planned and picked. I was seventeen when I met Michael, and I’m sort of Michael Bay-raised. I’ve learned a great deal from Michael, as a person, as an actor, as a person on set. And it’s not that I don’t enjoy working with Michael. I love working with Michael.”
Shia LaBeouf shared there wasn’t much of a script for ‘Revenge of the Fallen’
When speaking about the second Transformers movie, LaBeouf didn’t hold back his frustrations with the film. In an interview with Kevin McCarthy, the Indiana Jones actor spoke candidly about Fallen’s sloppy structure.
“We were given a date, we were given a bunch of money, we were given a bunch of toys, and we had no script,” LaBeouf said. “And there was a writer’s strike, so you couldn’t get one if you wanted one. So, we were writing on the fly, and we weren’t making a movie to make a good movie. We were making a movie to hit a date.”
But LaBeouf also asserted that the mistakes he learned from Revenge of the Fallen helped make the third Transformers film better.
“I think you needed the second movie to be received the way it was to propel everybody who showed up on this set to give it what they give it,” he continued.
Who made more in the ‘Transformers’ franchise between Shia LaBeouf and Mark Wahlberg?
As most know, Mark Wahlberg took over the Transformers franchise after LaBeouf’s departure as the lead. But between the two, which star had the bigger check? According to Celebrity Net Worth, LaBeouf made $750,000 off the first Transformers film. He earned $5 million and $15 million for the second and third Transformers films respectively, bringing his total to $20.75 million.
However, The Hollywood Reporter alleged that Wahlberg pocketed $40 million from Transformers: The Last Knight alone, adding to the Boogie Nights actor’s already enormous net worth. Prior to that, Forbes also noted that he made $17 million off of Transformers: Age of Extinction. Although LaBeouf was around Transformers a bit longer, it’s clear that Wahlberg walked away with the higher payday.
