Someone like me! Adele's plea to A-listers for help with a TV special

Someone like me! Adele’s plea to A-listers as she struggles to recruit friends to help with an Oprah Winfrey TV special on US network CBS

With a record 24 million streams of her new single Easy On Me in seven days, Adele needed no help reaching No1 in the UK charts – but recruiting celebrity chums to help with a TV special seems to be proving trickier.

Showbiz agents were surprised last week when they received a request from staff working with Oprah Winfrey on a programme for the US network CBS, asking for ‘VVIPs’ to take part in next month’s two-hour show.

In an email seen by The Mail on Sunday, the agents were asked to nominate A-list stars who will be available to take part in filming with Adele on November 6 at a secret London location and are recognisable to an American audience.

Hello? The TV special will be shown five days before the release of 30, which has been preceded by a media blitz from the usually fiercely private Adele

One Night Only! Excitedly announcing the programme last week, the network said the profile would include a ‘wide-ranging conversation about her new album

It is understood the footage will feature in Adele One Night Only – due to be screened on November 14 – alongside an interview with Ms Winfrey and a mini-concert by the 33-year-old singer, featuring some of the tracks from her new album, 30.

‘This all seems very strange and unusual, not really something that happens when shows like this are made,’ said one agent.

‘You would have thought Adele would have friends queuing up to take part, but it doesn’t seem to be the case.’

Excitedly announcing the programme last week, the network said the profile would include a ‘wide-ranging conversation about her new album, the stories behind the songs, life after divorce, weight loss and raising her son’.

The TV special will be shown five days before the release of 30, which has been preceded by a media blitz from the usually fiercely private Adele, who is dating US sports agent Rich Paul after finalising her divorce from charity CEO Simon Konecki.

As well as appearing on the covers of both British and US Vogue, the London-born star has given fans a video tour of her £7 million Los Angeles mansion and visited a US basketball game in an all-leather outfit.
