TALK OF THE TOWN: Ned RocknRoll? It’s Wolf Winslet now! Titanic star’s husband changes his name by deed poll for the third time
To Richard Branson he’s ‘nephew’. When he worked for his uncle’s space tourism company Virgin Galactic, he was the ‘head of astronaut experience’. To Hollywood star Kate Winslet he’s ‘husband’ and to their son he’s simply ‘Dad’.
But what on earth do the rest of us call the artist formerly known as Ned RocknRoll?
Do try to keep up, but I can reveal that Kate Winslet’s eccentric husband of nine years has just changed his name by deed poll for the third time – to Edward Wolf Winslet Abel Smith.

Quite the mouthful, but perhaps he just likes getting his money’s worth.
Originally named Ned Abel Smith, the dashing 43-year-old adopted the moniker Ned RocknRoll in the mid-noughties when he was going through a rebellious phase.
Two years ago he changed it again, to the comparatively normal-sounding Edward Abel Smith.
But it seems he wanted to move on again, and has now decided to take his 45-year-old wife’s surname to match their seven-year-old son Bear’s birth certificate.
My source says: ‘He simply wanted to have the same name as his son Bear Blaze Winslet. He wanted to include the family name shared by his wife and son.’ Sounds like he’s maturing…
Cheltenham takes place behind closed doors next month and toffs are lamenting the horse-racing festival’s absence from ‘the season’.
But perhaps not Peter Phillips who, I’m told, was humiliated last year when he was refused entry to the exclusive parade ring because he didn’t have the right badge.
Peter watched as Made In Chelsea celebs went in, and even his estranged wife Autumn marched in, to meet Zara and Mike Tindall. Peter tried to call them but a patchy phone signal left him high and dry until a doorman relented.
Perhaps someone told him that Cheltenham’s Princess Royal stand is named after Peter’s mum!
Helena Bonham Carter inspired little confidence in customers of her Pantaloonies clothing brand when she said of her own style: ‘I often look at photos and say, ‘What was I thinking?”

So perhaps it’s wise of her to wind down the ‘bespoke upcycled jeans’ label she founded 15 years ago. Helena and her business partner have applied to voluntarily ‘strike off’ the brand.
Probably for the best – you’d have to pay ME to wear those things!
