Jane, a black Labrador, often appears on the social media site, is owned by seven-time US gold medalist Caeleb Dressel who has over 705,000 followers. In a post uploaded last week, the four-legged pup shared her love of the water by taking on the American swimmer in a race.

In a post captioned: “Someone check the time to 25, she’s built to float not for speed” the pooch is seen sitting at the edge of the outdoor pool, perched on a starting block.

Caeleb begins to swim backwards holding a red floating toy, to which Jane leaps in and doggy paddles after him.

Hardly breaking her stride, the dog manages to keep up with her owner while Caeleb’s wife Meghan films the race.

Meghan can be heard cheering on the family pet, to which she exclaims “This is insane!”

The Instagram post has gained over 776,000 hits with more than 2,200 comments.

Fellow Olympian Bobby Fink, who won two gold medals in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, commented: “Still a better start than mine.”

Australian swimmer Kyle Chalmers, who won silver in the Men’s 100m freestyle at Tokyo 2020, who said: “So you’re not the only Dressel that would smoke me to 25.”

Specialising in butterfly and freestyle, Caeleb won two gold medals at Rio 2016 and five gold medals at this year’s Games, including the 100m freestyle against Kyle.

Team USA can top of the medal table at the 32nd Summer Olympic Games, taking home 39 gold medals, while Team GB came fourth with 22 gold medals.
