"Harry Styles is getting serious with Olivia Wilde and that makes me upset"

At 16 years old, I was convinced Harry Styles and I were meant to be together, and eventually our life paths would cross so this would become a reality.

I wasn’t the only one. Camila Cabello recently admitted to James Corden while doing Carpool Karaoke that he was the reason she applied for X Factor over The Voice. She hoped his then-band One Direction, who were formed on the same show, would visit the set.

“This is really embarrassing, and I can only say this because obviously that was like, 10 years ago, but I literally was like, 'I'm auditioning for X Factor because I will marry Harry Styles.' I really believed that at the time,” she candidly explained.

Meanwhile fitness influencer Meggan Grubb revealed she’d written a song called, ‘Notice Me’ and posted it on YouTube in hope that he would listen and fall in love with her.

Rather than abandon my teenage crush on the curly-haired heartthrob, the allure seems to have grown up with me. My Harry doll is no longer on display in my bedroom (don’t you just love boyband merch), but the obsession is still very real.

My crush truly reached its peak watching him belt out country music with Shania Twain in a sequin jumpsuit at Coachella.

Nowadays I’m a little bit more realistic about the chances of becoming Mrs Styles. Yet, still I don’t like hearing about his relationship with Olivia Wilde – it's thought to have begun at the end of 2020 while working on film Don't Worry Darling.

His hit single As It Were is reportedly inspired by their romance and she was front row for his headline set. Harry has allegedly even got to know her children with ex partner Jason Sudeikis – Otis and Daisy.

The same goes for Daniel Craig – who found love with fellow actress Rachel Weisz. I’m happy for both men to have love in their life. I’m not a monster, so I won’t deny them that but please do spare me the details.

I consider myself a relatively normal person, so why does an unreasonable part of my brain immediately feel upset that their partners exist.

Maybe it's because celebrity crushes are a unique playground unburdened by the daily grind of everyday life. Knowing these romantic details shatters the illusion.

I’ll never hear Harry burp after a Pepsi Max, see him make small talk while waiting for the kettle to boil at the office or witness him calling British Gas to pay off a bill. He is a fantasy who only allows me snippets of himself and I am grateful for that – he’s too good to be mundane.

Ask anybody and they’ve got a celebrity crush who dominates a little piece of their heart, whether they are single or in the happiest of relationships.

We all deserve that bit of escapism, and I deserve to allow myself to imagine that Harry is singing directly at me for a couple of minutes.
