Holby City spoilers: Jeni is finally arrested after Fletch nearly kills her

At the start of tonight’s Holby City, Donna (Jaye Jacobs) and Fletch (Alex Walkinshaw) were nervously awaiting news that Jeni Sinclaire (Debra Stephenson) had been arrested after reporting her to Hanssen and to the police.

‘For all we know, Jeni’s in a police cell right now,’ said Donna – seconds before the woman herself appeared, coffee in hand, apparently having a normal working day.

With Mia still in hospital at St James’s and Evie (Phoebe French) at home with a panic alarm, Fletch and Donna were forced to act like nothing was happening so they didn’t tip Jeni off that she was about to be arrested. When she worked out that Donna was lying to her about where Mia was, she accelerated her plans to flee the country, taking as many of her ‘girls’ as possible with her. This included Evie, who’d come to find her dad after getting increasingly threatening messages from Jeni.

This all led to a tense showdown as Evie and Fletch cornered Jeni in a deserted corner of the bombed-out part of the hospital. She’d equipped herself with a shard of broken glass and there was a moment when it seemed possible that Fletch might actually use it on her, as he grabbed her and shouted angrily in her face, venting all of his disgust and horror about what she’d done.

Evie had to remind him that he isn’t someone who hurts people, and of course he isn’t – but he certainly came very close.

So Jeni is now finally in police custody, but it seems it’s not the end of the story as Donna still blames Evie for her part in getting Mia involved. ‘Jeni might have started this but you helped her,’ she told her. ‘So you should know this is far from over.’ It’s hard to imagine what this might involve, other than a boycott of Pulses when it’s Evie’s shift, but Donna is very angry and is not going to forgive or forget any time soon.

We met Eli (Davood Ghadami)’s wife Amelia (Lucy Briggs-Owen) in this episode, when she came to the hospital for IVF treatment. She also brought a little sample jar, because there’d been a defrosting incident with Eli’s sperm in the clinic and he had to supply some more – and the clock was ticking. Poor Eli was unable to perform under pressure, particularly as Jac (Rosie Marcel) had noticed he kept popping to the toilet and was on his case to get some work done.
