It’s nearly been an entire year since COVID-19 hit Britain and although we managed to get away with some fancy Valentine’s Day celebrations in 2020, the same won’t be happening for us this February 14. A lockdown Valentine’s Day might not be all bad though, as it’ll force us to think outside the box, especially if we can’t be with our other halves in the flesh.

Sunday, February 14, 2021 is the day we’ll all either be drowning our single sorrows in pinot grigio or getting all soppy with the ones we love, but obviously, going out for a fancy dinner, drinks, a show or even a lavish mini-break isn’t on the cards.

So what can we actually get up to during lockdown? Here are some suggestions of what games to play, films to watch, food to eat and gifts to buy.

Fun (and sexy) Valentine’s Day games

Depending on whether or not you’re physically with your partner this V-Day, the games you can play will vary, with any bedroom games having to take a back seat if your date is over video call.

Facebook’s Messenger service now offers a super-advanced video calling service, which will allow you to set a theme for your Valentine’s Day call with filters and even mood lighting options, so you can bring the lights down low and make it as romantic as possible.

Jackbox games offer tons of fun options for virtual dates. Games like Quiplash, Drawful, and Fibbage are sure to keep you entertained.

If you’re after in-person games there’s plenty of options:

Which TV series and movies to watch?

Regardless of whether or not you’re huddled on the sofa together, Valentine’s at home wouldn’t be right without a good old rom-com or dating show.

Netflix’s Party service is perfect for streaming something together if you’re apart on Sunday. Just give them a quick FaceTime and it’s basically the same thing, right?

Messenger also offers the option to watch a number of Facebook Watch original shows through the video calling platform, with shows such as Virtual Dating, Make Up or Break Up and Help Us Get Married all available to watch in group settings.

Some of the best movies and series for V-Day are usually the classics such as P.S I Love You, Pretty Woman or Dear John, but there are plenty of modern choices for you to get into.

365 Days, About Time, Me Before You, Love Simon, A Star Is Born, The Fault In Our Stars, The Best Of Me, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and any of the Fifty Shades films are all great options.

The Bottle Club has guaranteed delivery for Valentine’s Day if orders are placed by 2pm on Friday and next day delivery is selected.

It is also offering a multi-address shipping option for locked down lovers who are celebrating Valentine’s Day virtually this year, meaning even if you can’t be together you can still enjoy a drink together to mark the occasion.

Domino’s has spiced things up just in time for Valentine’s Day with the launch of its newest pizza, called the Absolute Banger, which is hilariously jam-packed with sausage offering not one, but four succulent meaty toppings.

Food delivery service Plateaway has just launched ‘Date Away’ meal kits, perfect for celebrating Valentine’s Day whilst restaurants are closed, with their kits all designed to be made with a partner so you can have a romantic meal together this Valentines.
