‘Jackass Forever’ Has $23 Million Debut, Replaces ‘Spider-Man’ At Top Of Box Office

Spider-Man: No Way Home has been dominating the box office since its debut in late December, but it finally lost its top spot this weekend thanks to the premiere of Jackass Forever.

Clearly there were many people anxious to see the latest (and likely final) installment in the Jackass franchise, which comes a decade after the last movie in the action-comedy series made waves. According to Tribute, Jackass Forever raked in a cool $23.5 million on its debut weekend.

But this wasn’t the only move that made a solid impression. Moonfall – the new sci-fi thriller starring Halle Berry and Patrick Wilson – also hit theatres this weekend. Though it earned less than half what Jackass Forever made, the flick still earned $10 million, leaving it in second place at the box office.

The success of both movies pushed the latest Spider-Man film to third place. But given that it was at the top of the box office for 8 weeks straight – and has earned a whopping $749 million worldwide – Spider-Man continues to be one of the most successful movies of the year.

In fact, it’s been reported that Spider-Man: No Way Home will soon surpass Avatar as one the third highest-grossing domestic movie given its financial success so far.

Jackass Forever may have knocked Spider-Man from the top spot, but it’s had nowhere near the same success at its debut that the superhero movie had. When it debuted in debuted in December, Spider-Man: No Way Home earned a crushing $253 million in its first weekend, which is being touted as the best domestic opening weekend of a movie in the COVID-era.

Still, it’s important to keep in mind the production budget for these high-grossing films. Spider-Man had a massive budget of $200 million, which it surpassed in its opening weekend by a bit more than $53 million.

But Jackass had a much smaller budget at only $10 million, and based on its revenue so far, it’s already doubled that, which speaks to how successful the movie is. While it’s unlikely to amass the same gross revenue Spider-Man has seen worldwide in recent months, it’s proof the Jackass franchise still has a strong fanbase that is enjoying seeing its content back on the silver screen.

It’s been reported that Jackass Forever will be the last film in the franchise, though its box office success may motivate another installment in the future.

However, the new Jackass movie’s release hasn’t been without controversy. Earlier this month, we reported that a $12 million lawsuit has been launched against some of the cast and crew of the new film, including Steve-O and Chris Pontius, over a jet ski stunt that left one person with life-altering injuries.

In addition, Johnny Knoxville revealed in a new interview he’s putting he’s retiring from stunts and pranks after suffering brain damage while filming for Jacksass Forever.

Only time will tell if this is the end of the Jackass franchise or not.
