Jon Hamm recently revealed he and Harry Hamlin were both up for the role of Sandy Cohen, the patriarch on “The O.C..”
The “Mad Men” star, 49, shared on the “Too Long; Didn’t Watch” podcast that he auditioned alongside Hamlin, 69, and Peter Gallagher, 65, who were around 15 to 20 years his senior.
He said, “I remember walking in and being like, ‘Is that Peter Gallagher? Why am I here?’ I love Peter Gallagher, but I was just like, ‘Dang!’”
Gallagher ultimately landed the role of Cohen and played the part from 2003 to 2007.
Hamm said he was often called in to audition for roles alongside older actors because he “never looked young enough to be in high school.” He was about 32 years old when he read for the part of Cohen.
“I missed out on all of the “Dawson’s Creek” and all the early, early WB shows,” he said. “So then they were like, ‘Come in and play one of the dads,’ but I don’t look like, I’m not old enough to be that, either.”
Hamm ultimately landed his breakout role in “Mad Men” in 2007.
