“Love Is Blind” star Abhishek “Shake” Chatterjee is finally taking some accountability.
Amid backlash from Season 2 viewers, the veterinarian publicly apologized to ex-fiancée Deepti Vempati on Tuesday for the hurtful comments he made behind her back.
“I wanted to take this opportunity to really just say sorry to a woman that I know I hurt,” Shake said in a video shared to Instagram.
“Deepti, I am truly sorry for some of the things I said. Things that, honestly, just could’ve been left unsaid, or could have been said differently. Things that never should have been said on national television.”
After proposing to Deepti sight unseen in the pods, Shake was caught on camera numerous times telling co-stars, friends and even family members that he wasn’t sexually attracted to her.
In his apology video, which appeared to be filmed in a restaurant, he noted that the pair were “best friends” while they were filming the Netflix dating show.
“Even though I knew our relationship wasn’t going to end in marriage, I didn’t want what we had to end either. I loved every second of it,” Shake said. “I’m so, so sorry that I hurt you with my words. That’s the last thing that I wanted from all of this. I’m sorry, Deepti.”
Despite Shake’s attempt to take accountability for his actions, many fans weren’t buying his apology – and called him out in the comments section.
“It’s only because everyone is coming for you,” one person wrote, with another adding, “Apologizes after being called out RELENTLESSLY seems like you only apologized so everyone doesn’t hate you.”
Others poked fun at him for his choice of location for a video of this nature, with one asking, “Bro you had to do this at Dunkin?”
“Why are you doing this in the middle of what seems to be a restaurant? And why does it look like you’re trying not to smirk all the way through this?” another commented.
Shake noted in his caption that he also “reached out privately” to Deepti. However, in a recent interview with Page Six, Deepti said she had no regrets about saying “I don’t” to Shake at the altar.
“We talked about how we struggled with the intimacy part of our relationship but watching it back was hard,” the reality star explained. “It was tough [to see] the way he was talking about me.”
She continued, “Some of the things he said were just completely disrespectful, even to a friend. So, yeah, it’s been tough watching it back but I’m trying to put it in the past and just move forward.”
Shake’s latest video is a much different tune from what he said via Instagram just one week ago.
“One thing I don’t feel inclined to do is pretend I’m sad or sorry about certain things — certain things that were out of my control, certain things that I can’t necessarily even speak about. I’m just not going to do that. I’m not sorry,” he said at the time.
“I think I handled the situation as best as anybody in my situation could. And at the end of the day, I’m going to live my best life going forward. And you don’t have to like me. Only I have to like me, thankfully. And that’s real life.”
Following his apology, Shake revealed in a separate post shared to Instagram on Wednesday that he’s launching a podcast titled “Love Is Blurry.”
“The truth only offends those who live outside of it,” he captioned the announcement.
The title is a nod to the comments he made while chatting with co-hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey during the heated Season 2 reunion.
“I want the emotional connection, everything we know the show is supposed to do,” he insisted. “But there’s also certain criteria there that goes beyond the emotional connection. Love is not purely blind to me.”
