Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were seen in New York City last month attending several events. This was the first appearance since the Duchess of Sussex gave birth to their daughter Lilibet and with so many months out of the public eye, fans want to know the ins and outs of the royal couple’s relationship. Express.co.uk spoke to Believing Bruce, a body language expert about Meghan and Harry’s dynamic.
When appearing on a global stage, attending a local school and meeting with the city mayor, Meghan and Harry posed for photos and waved to fans.
Speaking about their behaviour in public settings, Bruce said: “Harry is actually very confident.
“It’s when Meghan is present that from a psychological angle the ‘parent-child’ type relationship presents itself.”
There were rumours a camera crew were following Meghan and Harry, possibly for an upcoming Netflix documentary – something they wouldn’t have been able to do if they were still senior members of the Royal Family.
Speaking about their departure from the Firm, Bruce claimed: “Think of Meghan as an accelerator rather than a driving force.
“Harry is a free spirit, a nonconformist. Harry has always wanted to explore life outside of the Royal Family.
“In Meghan he found someone who encouraged him to pursue this.
“That said, one thing that is not so clear cut, is whether Harry’s disposition actually benefited Meghan and she used that for her own purposes. She encouraged it because it benefitted her,” he claimed.
“The relationship between Meghan and Harry is so complex, with so many variables, that we could spend hours talking about it.
“But for sure, Harry is looking for that mother figure,” Bruce claims. “Meghan provides that.
“Whether or not this is a good thing, or even if it is a ‘healthy’ relationship, will play out over time.”
Why did Meghan and Harry leave the Royal Family?
In their CBS interview with Oprah Winfrey, Prince Harry explained his reasons for leaving the Royal Family were due to a “lack of support and lack of understanding”.
During a discussion about Harry’s frustration with the British press, he acknowledged that although the “UK is [his] home,” he had to remove his family from the situation because he “could see where this was headed,” in what could be a reference to the struggles of his mother, Princess Diana.
He also explained his efforts to protect his family from the press: “I asked for calm from the British tabloids. Once as a boyfriend, once as a husband, and once as a father.”
Oprah pressed Harry to clarify his motivations to leave: “Was the move about getting away from the UK press, because the press is everywhere, or was the move because you weren’t getting enough support from the firm?”
“Both,” Harry confirmed.
The host wondered: “If you’d had support, you would still be there?”
“Without question,” the Prince answered.
