Upon discovering she was expecting as a young teenager, Lynne Oakes (pictured left), from North London, was sent to a mother and baby home by her parents
Recalling the mother and baby home, Lynne said: ‘I was the youngest one there. I was always knitting. I made lots of baby clothes to keep [my son] warm and make him look nice.’
When Lynne’s baby boy was born, she named him Eugene and spent several days taking care of him in hospital.
She said: ‘I loved every minute of it, bathing him, I’d sing to him, and I’d talk to him. For ten days you get to love something.
‘Then the very last day I remember crying. All my tears were dropping on his face as I was feeding him and I was talking to him saying I was sorry and I told him I loved him and I’ll always love him and one day I would find him.
‘And then they put him in the cot, just wheeled him away and that was it. I couldn’t believe something so beautiful was snatched from my arms.’

Lynne went on to marry, but never had any more children. Meanwhile, Eugene, now called Michael, was found living in Thetford, Norfolk.
Michael told co-presenter Nicky Campbell he was happy to be found but saddened to learn of his birth mother’s difficult situation.
‘It must have been terrible… handing over somebody over that you love, knowing that you’re most probably not going to see them again,’ he said.
Co-presenter Davina McCall met Lynne to give her the news she had longed to hear for over 50 years.

A shocked Lynne said: ‘Oh my god. Oh, I can’t believe it. He doesn’t hate me?’, to which Davina quickly reassured her that Michael wanted to meet.
The presenter also told Lynne that she is a grandmother and a great-grandmother, leaving Lynne over the moon, and saying: ‘I’ve got a son. I’ve got family, my own family. It’s wonderful!’
Ahead of meeting her son, Lynne said: ‘It doesn’t seem real. I don’t know what becoming a mum is like. I was only a mum for ten days really so it’s very hard to know what to expect.’
Michael travelled from his home in Norfolk to meet Lynne just a few miles from where he was born.
Reaction: Viewers took to Twitter to praise last night’s episode, with many admitting it left them ‘crying their eyes out’
When first meeting, the pair share an emotional hug, with Lynne saying: ‘I feel like a whole weight has been lifted from my head. …he wants to call me “Mum” … it’s lovely …it was magic, absolute magic.’
Michael was equally ecstatic, adding: ‘I’m over the moon. She’s such a lovely woman. I’m just looking forward to the rest of the time we can have together.’
Michael introduced Lynne to his daughter Ellie and her baby.
‘I’m a mum. A grand mum and a great grand mum,’ said Lynne. ‘I’m very lucky, aren’t I? Am I gonna wake up tomorrow and this has just been one big dream? But I’m not, am I? No. It’s true.’
