‘My date used 2-for-1 voucher for London Zoo – I paid and he got in for free’

Dating is often not as straightforward as many hope it to be – from deciding where to how you are going to split the bill.

But, one woman didn't have to worry about the latter as her match was pretty stingy with his wallet.

Elena, a freelance content consultant, went to London Zoo on her first date with a lad – who suggested the location to hopefully kickstart a romance.

Despite choosing the huge wildlife park for the meeting point, he did not seem to want to put his money where his mouth is and used a 2-for-1 ticket – and made Elena pay.

She took to Twitter under the username @ElenaBjxrn to spill on the "awful" date.

Elena revealed: "I just remembered the time I went on a first date to London Zoo and at the gate he asked if I would mind paying for my own ticket, which I said I would, at which point he pulled out a 2-for-1 voucher. So I paid for my ticket and he went in for free."

Brutal…

"The date wasn't awful for that reason, but it didn't help it was awful for many, many reasons, and somehow still wasn't my worst first date," she continued.

"He told me a very long story about how he was 'finally ready to date' after having his heart broken.

"Even the way HE told the story it sounded like he pursued a female friend who wasn’t interested until she got her boyfriend to tell him to leave her alone.

"I literally tried to run away at the end of the date saying I wanted to get a head start on my Christmas shopping.

"It was August. He then grabbed me into a weird headlock and smashed his teeth into my teeth."

After reminiscing about the questionable first date, Elena clarified that she is happy to go on 'free' and 'cheap' dates.

"I should point out btw that the zoo was his idea", she noted.

"He was evidently on a budget (no shame in that) and I have had tremendous fun on free/extremely cheap dates in the past so I wouldn’t have minded that either. But he suggested it!"

Many people fled to the viral tweet to share their shock.

One person gasped: "An actual LEECH! even if I was going with a FRIEND I’d be like hey let’s use this voucher and split the price of the one ticket. crazy world we live in."

Another user added: "Date would’ve been over from then."

While a third blasted: "I will turn around and leave him there."

It turns out that even bad dates have silver linings as London Zoo got in contact to offer Elena free tickets to see the exotic animals.

The official Twitter account for London Zoo replied: "Hi Elena, we’d love to offer you two complimentary tickets so you can come back another time – with a better date!"
