A post on Reddit has shocked internet users after it was revealed that a 9/11 themed wedding took place with invites featuring a cartoon of the twin towers.
The save the date cards were printed with the words “Never Forget” followed by the wedding date of September 11 2021.
The number 11, however, was represented by the silhouettes of the World Trade Centre which was famously destroyed in the 2001 terror attacks in New York.
Last week was the 20th anniversary of the devastating event.
The Reddit poster captioned the photo: "A friend worked a 9/11 themed wedding."
And, people were understandably confused and upset by the idea of a wedding themed around the event that killed 2,996 people.
The horrific event still affects people today who breathed in toxic chemicals as the towers crumbled and those who lost loved ones.
On the subReddit r/trashy, social media posters commented with angry statements about the themed nuptials.
One person wrote: "I don't think getting married on 9/11 is inherently insensitive, but making your wedding 9/11 themed definitely is."
A third added: “Straight up disgusting.”
"This is, without a doubt, the most trashy, tasteless, self-aggrandising, obscene, revolting thing I've seen on the internet,” added another.
And, according to Tyla, this was not the only 9/11 themed wedding to have taken place.
A post on the Reddit forum r/wedding shaming showed a couple using the hashtag #twofalltogether on their September 11 big day – in reference to the fall of the twin towers.
Plus, others claimed the couple also used the hashtag #jihadtobethere in reference to the terrorist group al-Qaeda.
"I'm so confused by the whole thing. Can't believe hey thought this would be OK,” commented a poster.
While another added: "I couldn't be friends in real life with people who actually thought anything related to the 9/11 terror attacks is actually funny."
And a third wrote: "Why have I seen more than one 9/11 themed wedding stuff this year? Tacky as f***."
Both hashtags have been removed from the couple’s wedding website.
