Prince Harry Points Out 1 Major Difference Between His Pain and Princess Diana's Misery — 'At Least We Had Each Other'

Britain’s Prince Harry has been through a lot in the past couple years.

The second son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana fell in love, got married, and had a son before leaving the only life he’s ever known. Seeing Harry quit the royal family was both shocking and predictable to those who truly knew him.

The major catalyst which forced the Duke of Sussex to move overseas was how the public treated his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. This couple decided to begin a new life in Los Angeles far from the vicious London tabloids and aggressive photographers.

Many royal followers draw comparisons between Prince Harry and his mother, Princess Diana. But Harry says there is one big difference.

Princess Diana was hounded by the press for her whole adult life

Since the moment journalists discovered Britain’s most eligible bachelor was courting the young, beautiful socialite Diana Spencer, they couldn’t get enough of her. Mistreatment of Princess Diana during her tenure with the royal family was legendary.

And it could have been the thing that literally killed her. According to some reports, paparazzi were chasing Diana in her car just before the fatal car crash that took her life in 1997.

It’s true that the Princess of Wales used fame to her advantage by calling the press when it suited her needs. But overall, she wished to have a private life she would never get.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle refused to endure poor treatment

Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Meghan didn’t suffer the bright flashbulbs of relentless paparazzi for very long. The birth of their son, Archie, forced this couple to reevaluate their lives and make a bold move. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they were quitting their jobs as senior royals on a temporary basis in January 2020.

In 2021, they made that split permanent. Now the couple along with their son Archie are living in a sprawling California mansion. They are also expecting their second child.

Prince Harry told Oprah he’s better off than Princess Diana

Online bullying didn’t exist when Princess Diana was alive, so that’s added a new dimension to Harry and Meghan’s strife. But they were uniquely positioned to handle the public’s criticism because at least they had each other.

During a teaser promo for their upcoming interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry mused on why he was actually better off surviving unfair treatment from the press. It has everything to do with having a supportive partner rather than facing the agony alone.

“My biggest concern was history repeating itself,” Harry tells Oprah in the teaser, via Page Six. “I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side because I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like for [Diana] going through this process by herself all those years ago.”

He continued, saying, “It has been unbelievably tough for the two of us, but at least we had each other.”

Meghan wears Diana’s diamond tennis bracelet during the interview as a way of bringing the Princess of Wales with them to the conversation.
