A few weeks ago the Obamas posted some super sweet birthday tributes to their youngest daughter, Sasha Obama, for her 20th birthday (via Teen Vogue). In Barack Obama’s post on June 10, the former president shared an adorable pic of Sasha looking over her father’s shoulder while he holds onto her (via Instagram). In his caption, Barack wrote, “it’s been a joy to watch you become the person we always hoped you’d be.”
Michelle Obama had to level up the sweetness with another throwback pic of Sasha sitting on her mom’s lap with the caption, “I am so grateful for every laugh we’ve shared — and everything you’ve taught me over the years. You’ll always be my little girl, but I couldn’t be prouder of the woman you are becoming” (via Instagram). Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Obamas were able to spend more time with their two daughters in 2020, according to People. That may be why they were a little extra sentimental in their birthday posts this year, because Malia, whose birthday is on July 4, also got her own sweet tributes.
The Obamas shared throwback pictures with well wishes for an exciting year ahead
On July 4, both Barack and Michelle shared their own throwback snaps of Malia Obama in celebration of her 23rd birthday. Barack’s photo with Malia features the two of them sitting together and having fun (via Twitter). He accompanied the post with “It’s been such a joy to watch you begin to make your own way in the world with poise, grace, and humor.” He also reminisced, saying, “I miss the days when you thought the fireworks were for you.” Having your birthday on the Fourth of July, it makes perfect sense that you would think the fireworks were in celebration of your day.
Michelle’s tribute includes a photo that’s a “few years” old, but she knows that the now-grown Malia will “always be [her] sweet little girl (via Twitter). She also said that she and Barack “are so excited to see what this year will bring for [her]!” This year was a big one for Malia, who just landed her first writing gig on Donald Glover’s new Amazon Prime series, according to TMZ. It seems there really are exciting things in store for the Obamas’ eldest daughter, and hopefully she has the best birthday to celebrate what’s to come.
