  • Commenters were baffled and suggested her mum went to a strip club in ‘1940s’

A woman who found the perfect graduation dress turned to TikTok for advice on whether to wear it or not, after a scathing comment from her mother.

Louise Moseley, 23, was set to graduate from Bath Spa University and had discovered a tight, red dress that reached her knees and featured a side split for the occasion.

Despite being in love with it herself, Louise’s mother thought the ASOS frock was more appropriate for a ‘strip club’ rather than a graduation.

After receiving the comments and becoming disheartened, the student, from Cornwall, headed to TikTok for a second opinion and shared a clip of her in the dress that gained 5.9 million views.

After seeing it on, commenters were perplexed at her mother’s words, stating that it was ‘classy’ and suggested that her mum had last gone to a strip club in the ‘1940s’.

Louise explained the situation via text included in her video which read: ‘Mum just said: “It’s a graduation not a strip club”.

‘But I know if I was smaller the dress wouldn’t be a problem

‘Like, it’s your fault I have hips Mum, so now what’.

In the clip’s caption she further explained that she now had nothing to wear to the event following her mum’s comments, saying: ‘I graduate in five days and still no dress tehe’.

Responding to a comment asking why mums tend to say such things, Lousie explained that she knew her mother hadn’t meant it callously.

She said: ‘I know she means well, but my mum is my worst critic, I swear’.

Commenters were baffled at the suggestion the dress was anything but beautiful and made sure they let Louise know.

Commenters were baffled that her mother didn’t like the dress and made sure to let Louise know they thought it was beautiful and appropriate

One person said: ‘I guess your mom goes to 1940s strip clubs? You look gorgeous and it’s appropriate for the event! Glow!’

While another cheered: ‘You look hot and CLASSSSSY. Don’t listen’.

While a third person agreed: ‘She hasn’t been to the club in a while and it shows’.

Despite the initial disappointment, the support Louise gained from her followers encouraged her to wear the dress anyway and she wore it to her graduation on Tuesday.

She also made it known that—other than differing fashion tastes—her mother was a supportive figure in her life, by updating her TikTok bio to read: ‘Mum’s my biggest fan’.
