BARCELONA have chosen to abandon their plans of hiring a new scout after some of his old tweets have resurfaced.

Elvis Coca was set to become a new member of the La Liga side's backroom staff before the club were made aware of tweets praising Real Madrid and criticising the Catalan side.

Coca had previously been working as a scout for Mirandes in the Spanish second tier.

The deal had already been agreed for the scout to move to Barcelona before the tweets were then discovered.

The tweets, which are now deleted, contained Coca celebrating wins for Barcelona's bitter rivals Real Madrid, as well as complaints about the Catalan club receiving help from referees.

Speaking on local radio after the offer had been taken off the table, Coca said: "I've missed out on the opportunity of a lifetime."
