Man Utd transfer blow with Kalvin Phillips ready to snub rivals and sign new long-term Leeds contract amid interest

KALVIN PHILLIPS is ready to turn down interest from Manchester United in order to pen a new deal with boyhood club Leeds.

The England star, 26, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford as interim boss Ralf Rangnick eyes midfield reinforcements.

But Phillips himself has revealed he wants to stay at Elland Road.

The midfielder is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, and told the Mail: "I just want to focus on getting back fit, but I speak to the owner regularly.

"I want a new contract. I’m very happy here."

A £60million move has been mooted, with Liverpool also said to be keen on the Leeds hero.

When quizzed about his mammoth price-tag, Phillips joked: "I just think it’s mental, but I’m not gonna say that I’m not worth £60m!"

SunSport exclusively revealed earlier this month that Phillips is unwilling to upset Leeds fans and harm his status at the club by making a switch to Old Trafford.

He is also reportedly wary about a move to United due to fears his Leeds-based family would be subject to abuse from local supporters.

His current deal expires in the summer of 2024, but the Whites will be desperate to tie him down to a new long-term contract.

Phillips is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury that could keep him out of action for up to two months.

The midfielder was forced off in the second half of the 2-2 draw against Brentford at the start of the month.

He is also set to separately undergo surgery on his shoulder after a nasty dislocation at the end of last season.

He postponed going under the knife in the summer in order to feature at Euro 2020, where he played a starring role for Gareth Southgate's side.
