England boss Sarina Wiegman has issued a final message ahead of the World Cup final, where she insisted that her side are ‘ready’ for the occasion.

The Lionesses will look to make history – and win the World Cup for the first time – when they take on Spain in the tournament’s showpiece event on Sunday.

If they are successful, Wiegman’s England side will join an elite group of nations to have won consecutive European Championships and World Cup titles.

And the Lionesses boss gave fans the news they were all waiting for ahead of the final, as she insisted that her side are in a ‘very good place’.

Revealing to The Diary Room, Wiegman said: ‘We are ready. We know what our game plan is. Everyone has recovered really well from the game against Australia.

‘Everyone is fit, everyone is available and we are in a very good place – so we can’t wait.’

Wiegman also revealed how fan support has helped them reach the final: ‘I know there’s a lot of support from out in England, so I’d really like to thank you for that support.

‘We can really feel it here and I hope Sunday you’ll support us again and I hope that we will bring you a lot of joy and we play at our best and be successful.’

Wiegman has been the England national team coach since September 2021 and, in the same interview, reflected on her time in the dugout.

‘The journey with England has been really nice and very exciting,’ she said. ‘Of course last year, winning the Euros and then off the back of the Euros, qualifying for the World Cup.

‘Then winning the Finalissima, preparing for this World Cup and then growing in this tournament. This time is so eager to improve and to play at our best and finding ways. And that’s just really nice to work with them.

‘I’m so happy with the team because they’ve showed so much resilience. The togetherness of this team to support each other and continue to find a way in solutions and find a way to win has been really impressive.’

England’s stars – such as Lauren James (L) and Ella Toone (R) – were seen leaving their hotel

Early on Sunday, England’s Lionesses left their hotel as the final countdown before their historic World Cup final began.

The players were seen stepping out of the Intercontinental in Sydney in their light blue tracksuits ahead of this morning’s clash with Spain – England’s first World Cup final since 1966.

Supporters young and old gathered outside the hotel and cheered as their heroes boarded a maroon-coloured bus, branded with ‘The Final’ in gold lettering, to take them to Stadium Australia.

The bus was given a police escort for its journey through the city, which should take around half an hour.
