Sevilla 'REJECT Newcastle’s £25m transfer bid for Diego Carlos as Tottenham join race to sign in-demand centre-back'

NEWCASTLE have reportedly had a £25million bid for Diego Carlos knocked back by Sevilla as Tottenham enter the race to prise him away from Spain.

Eddie Howe has made bringing the Brazilian centre-back to St James' Park a priority this month with the player keen to join the Magpies.

It has been claimed that the 28-year-old has already agreed personal terms with the Toon.

The struggling Premier League outfit are believed to be willing to offer the defender £110,000-a-week.

But they are yet to agree a fee with Sevilla, as the LaLiga side hold out for more cash.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano tweeted: "Newcastle proposal for Diego Carlos around €30m [£25m] guaranteed has been turned down.

"Magpies are still pushing, Sevilla want to keep Diego but deal’s not off."

Newcastle are also said to be battling another Premier League in the race to secure Carlos' services.

And the Daily Mail have stated that Tottenham are in competition with the Magpies.

Antonio Conte is desperate to bolster his squad this month in Spurs' bid to finish in the top four.

The report also adds that Italian giants AC Milan are another club weighing up a swoop for Carlos.

Though as it stands, Newcastle remain the frontrunners in landing the 2020 Olympic gold medallist.

Newcastle are determined to bring in more players following the arrivals of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood.

Manchester United outcast Jesse Lingard is a serious target with the England international tempted by the move.

Meanwhile the club are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno on an initial loan deal.
