Auckland traffic: One dead after crash on Auckland’s Upper Harbour Motorway

A person has died and another is seriously injured after a crash on Auckland’s Upper Harbour highway this morning.

Police confirmed they were called just after 10am to a crash involving a vehicle and a van. The crash happened near the Tauhinu Rd off-ramp, near the Greenhithe Rd overbridge.

“Sadly, police can confirm one person has died at the scene. Another person has been seriously injured and is being taken to hospital.”

St John said four ambulance vehicles were sent to the scene after they received reports of a crash at 10.10am.

One person has been treated. St John initially described the victim as being in a critical condition.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency said the highway is now closed, eastbound, between Tauhinu Rd and Albany Highway.

“[It’s] likely to remain closed for some time as police undertake an investigation,” NZTA said.

Those travelling for essential purposes in the area are told to allow for extra time, as a detour has been put in place.
