Schedule for President Biden’s Europe Trip

President Joe Biden makes a seven-day trip to Europe next week. Here’s the itinerary thus far:

June 10: Meeting with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson

June 11-13: Attending G7 Summit in Cornwall

June 13: He and Dr. Jill Biden meet with The Queen at Windsor Castle

June 14: NATO Summit in Brussels

June 15: U.S.–EU Summit in Brussels

June 16: Meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Geneva

Biden and Johnson will on Thursday ahead of the gathering of world leaders in Cornwall as the president embarks on a seven-day trip to Europe, the White House announced.

It’s Biden’s first international trip as president and he’s crammed in a packed schedule: the G7 meeting, a NATO meeting, an EU summit and a sit down with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Biden held off on foreign travel due to the coronavirus pandemic but is making up for it with this trip that includes meetings with foreign leaders, Queen Elizabeth II, the king of Belgium, and his Russian counterpart.

First lady Jill Biden will join him for the British portion of the trip but will return to the United States after the first couple meets with the Queen at Windsor Castle next Sunday.

Biden will be the 13th American president the Queen has met since ascending to the throne in 1953.

There is speculation that the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will also meet the American couple at some point during their visit to the UK.

At his sit down with Johnson, Biden will ‘affirm the enduring strength of the special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom,’ White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement.

Biden and Johnson have spoken on the phone multiple times since Biden was elected president.

Johnson will also asked the American president to exempt vaccinated British and American travellers from quarantine restrictions to facilitate travel between the two nations.

The PM wants to create a ‘green channel’ for those fully vaccinated, The Times reported, as the summer holiday season approaches.

Afterward their meeting, Biden will attend the G7 summit, where he will  hold bilateral meetings with fellow G7 leaders. The G7 includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union.

After his meeting with The Queen, Biden will travel to Brussels, Belgium, to participate in in a NATO meeting and an EU Summit.

The Carbis Bay Hotel in Cornwall still ‘looks like a building site’ with just weeks before it hosts the G7 summit

The hotel – where US President Joe Biden and Boris Johnson will be staying – is littered with construction materials

There, the president will discuss transatlantic security and the collective defense of Europe.

He will also meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Biden also will participate in the U.S.–EU Summit while in Brussels. That meeting with focus on global health and the world economy. Leaders will discuss climate change, trade, and democracy.

President Biden will also meet with His Majesty King Philippe of Belgium and Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.

Then Biden travels to Geneva for his sit down with Putin on June 16. He will also meet with Swiss President Guy Parmelin and Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis.

Biden on Wednesday did not rule out retaliation against Russian President Vladimir Putin for a series of cyber attacks on American companies.

‘We’re looking closely at that issue,’ Biden said when asked if he would retaliate for the latest ransomware attack, which was against JBS Foods.

But he dismissed concerns he was being tested by his Russian counterpart.

‘No,’ he said when asked if he thought Putin was testing him.

The two leaders will meet in Geneva, Switzerland on June 16 for their first sit down amid rising tensions between the two nations.

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Wednesday the cyber attacks on US companies, believed to be done by hackers in Russia but not in conjunction with that government, will be on the summit agenda.

‘President Biden certainly thinks that President Putin and the Russian government has a role to play in stopping and preventing these attacks hence it will be a topic of discussion when they meet in two weeks,’ she said.

The agenda is filling up rapidly. Also likely to come up: Russian interference in US elections; Moscow’s aggressive posture toward the Ukraine and the treatment of dissent Alexei Navalny.

President Joe Biden did not rule out retaliation against Russian President Vladimir Putin for a series of cyber attacks on American companies

There have been multiple attacks on US companies by Russian hackers, including the Solar Winds hack last year, the hack of the Colonial Pipeline that caused gas prices to spike, and the attack on JBS Foods, the world’s largest meat processing company

‘We’re not taking anything off the table in terms of how we may respond,’ Psaki said without getting into specifics.

‘I will say that this attack is a reminder about the importance to private sector entities of hardening, their cybersecurity, and ensuring they take the necessary steps to prepare for this threat, which we’ve seen rising even over the last few week,’ she said.

Joe Biden is fourteenth president of Queen’s seven-decade reign

During her 69 years on the throne, The Queen has seen 13 American Presidents come and go.

With the visit of Joe Biden, the fourteenth commander in chief since 1952, to Windsor Castle later this month she will have met all but one US head of state.

Lyndon B Johnson, who took over in 1963 following John F Kennedy’s assassination, never crossed paths with the Queen.

Elizabeth II has played a pivotal role over the decades in the UK’s relationship with the leaders of one of its closest allies.

Harry S Truman

In 1951, a young Princess Elizabeth – unknowingly three months away from becoming queen – travelled to Washington and saw President Harry S Truman, who was still in the Oval Office when she acceded to the throne.

Dwight D Eisenhower

During her first state visit to America in 1957, now the Queen, she met Dwight D Eisenhower, and the two heads of state met again two years later in Canada.

The Queen was said to have had an affectionate relationship with Mr Eisenhower, who was even invited to stay at the Queen’s Scottish hideaway Balmoral Castle.

John F Kennedy

The glamorous president and his wife Jackie dined with the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace in June 1961.

Lyndon B Johnson

Mr Johnson took over after Mr Kennedy’s assassination in 1963.

He was president until 1969, but the Queen never met him, and he died in 1973.

Richard Nixon

Richard Nixon dined with the Queen at Buckingham Palace in February 1969.

The Queen also met him at Chequers in October 1970 and was photographed with him outside the prime minister’s official country residence.

Gerald Ford

In 1976, during the US bicentennial, the Queen met Gerald Ford in the US.

Jimmy Carter

In 1977, the monarch was pictured in a billowing, wide-sleeved yellow gown alongside Jimmy Carter, in a black tie and tuxedo, when he came to London.

Ronald Reagan

Ronald and Nancy Reagan stayed at the Queen’s favourite home Windsor Castle in 1982 and the two heads of state were famously pictured riding side by side in Windsor Great Park.

She also met Mr Reagan during an official visit to America’s West Coast in 1983.

George Bush Snr

George Bush Snr had lunch with the Queen at Buckingham Palace in 1989.

She also visited him in the US in 1991 – the trip that led to “Podiumgate” – when all that could be seen of the Queen above the lectern – when she was delivering an address on the White House lawn – was her hat.

Bill Clinton

Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary met the Queen several times, including in December 2000 when, along with daughter Chelsea, they dropped in on the palace.

George W Bush

George W Bush met the Queen a number of times during his period in office, first travelling to the palace in July 2001 and two years paying an official state visit to the UK – the first by a US leader.

When he welcomed her to the White House during a 2007 visit, the president winked at the Queen after making a gaffe – ageing her by 200 years after mixing up his dates in a speech.

Barack Obama

The Queen’s relationship with Barack and Michelle Obama was a warm and friendly one that even saw the monarch and the first lady put their arms around each other like old friends after a reception ahead of the G20 summit in 2009.

A successful state visit to the UK followed in 2011 and the Obamas forged a strong bond with the Queen and her wider family – particularly the Duke of Sussex, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Donald Trump

Donald Trump and his wife Melania were hosted by the Queen at Windsor Castle during a 2018 visit to the UK, and before meeting the monarch he described her as “a tremendous woman”.

He returned for a state visit the following year and was joined by members of his family, and during the three-day visit senior royals also met the US leader.

Joe Biden

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden are due to meet the Queen at Windsor Castle on Sunday June 13.

The US leader is likely to meet the monarch at the conclusion of G7 talks being staged in Cornwall next week.
