Cop gets slap on wrist after sharing pic of dead body – despite two officers being jailed for similar offence

A COP has escaped with a slap on the wrist for sharing a picture of a dead body — despite two officers being jailed for a similar offence.

The PC got a written warning at a misconduct hearing after sending the picture to a member of the public “for no policing purpose”.

A GMP spokeswoman said: “An independent IOPC investigation into this incident found that the officer had shared the image to one person and there was no evidence of any malicious intent behind the decision to share the photo.

“However, the investigation concluded that the officer did have a case to answer for misconduct.

"Therefore, following a misconduct meeting, the officer received a written warning.”

PCs Deniz Jaffer and Jamie Lewis were jailed last month for sharing pictures they took of the bodies of two murdered sisters in a London park.

The photos were shared with colleagues while Jaffer sent them to members of the public. Both were jailed for two years and nine months.

Judge Mark Lucraft QC told them: “The public expects, and rightly so, the highest of standards from police officers and I’m sure there will be many thousands of officers in police forces in this country and abroad who are utterly horrified by your actions – it’s appalling and inexplicable conduct.”
