The creators of the animated Batman spinoff “Harley Quinn” say they were told to spike a scene where the Caped Crusader performs oral sex on Catwoman — because “Heroes don’t do that.’’

“It’s incredibly gratifying and free to be using characters that are considered villains because you just have so much more leeway,” said Justin Halpern, executive producer and co-creator of the DC Entertainment-HBO Max hit series “Harley Quinn,’’ to Variety in an article published Monday.

“A perfect example of that is in this third season of ‘Harley,’ we had a moment where Batman was going down on Catwoman,” said Halpern, whose series features the villainous gal pal of Batman nemesis the Joker.

“And DC was like, ‘You can’t do that. You absolutely cannot do that,’” the show exec said. “They’re like, ‘Heroes don’t do that.’

“So, we said, ‘Are you saying heroes are just selfish lovers?’ They were like, ‘No, it’s that we sell consumer toys for heroes. It’s hard to sell a toy if Batman is also going down on someone.’”

It’s unclear if the scene was cut or reworked for the show’s upcoming third season.
