A four-alarm blaze broke out on the boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ Saturday, ravaging Playland’s Castaway Cove, billed as the area’s “oldest amusement park, reports said.
The fire began shortly before 8 a.m. on the 1000 block of the boardwalk, and took more than two hours for dozens of firefighters braving sub-freezing temperatures to douse the raging flames — which at one point shot through the roof of the building that houses the park’s arcade and offices, Fox 29 reported.
There were no reports of any injuries. Fire officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Playland’s Castaway Cove vowed to return for the 2021 season.
“We struggle to comprehend this mornings events and what will be of the next few months, but we can assure you this, WE WILL REBUILD!!,” the company posted on its Facebook page.
“We have a secondary entrance that will now be our main entrance for the foreseeable future. We will be open sooner rather than later! For now, hug your loved ones, pray for the first responders and know that we will be back in the spring of 2021!”
