Man grabbed girl, 9, drags her into bushes and says ‘do you want to live?’

A brave woman saved a nine-year-old girl from being abducted after she witnessed a man grab the frightened youngster by the throat and try to drag her away into the bushes to rape her.

The young girl was walking down a street when the man crept up behind her and picked her up in a chokehold before being scared off by a neighbour in the town of Solnechnogorsk, Russia.

The schoolgirl, who was left with bruises from where he held her by the neck, said he whispered in her ear: "Do you want to live?" as he snatched her off the street.

Daria Ryabova, the neighbour, who scared the suspect away, told local news site NTV: "I saw what was going on and started screaming at him to let her go."

She added: "He let her go and ran off, at which point the girl sprinted towards me, and I hugged her as tight as I could."

Daria says that the girl asked her to "never let her go".

NTV reported that the suspect has previous convictions for sexual assault, and when he was interrogated by the police, he told them he wanted to carry the girl to a hidden spot and rape her.

It comes as Russia has been rocked by a series of high-profile paedophile cases, including the incident earlier this month when a man killed his best friend and buried him in the woods after finding out he raped his nine-year-old daughter.

In August, two teens aged 19 and 15 were sentenced to prison for the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl who was found at the bottom of a well in the Siberian town of Nizhnyaya Koya.

Specialists are now expected to carry out forensic and psychiatric examinations whilst the suspect is held in preliminary detention by the authorities.
