MoD bosses spent up to £816-a-night at five-star hotels in New York and Dubai while troops live in squalor, it has been reported.
One Ministry of Defence chief racked up a bill of £4,900 for six nights at a hotel in the UAE, according to figures seen by the Mirror.
In another shocking case, an MoD employee and a guest stayed in Limassol, Cyprus, for three nights at a cost of £2,200.
Fat cat officials at the taxpayer-funded department spent £9,246 for 22 nights at the five-star Royal Horseguards Hotel in central London.
Another MoD employee enjoyed two nights at Omni Berkshire Place hotel in Manhattan at a cost of £808.
Government aides also splashed out £10,226 on 30 nights at the luxurious Meriton Kent Street apartments in Sydney, Australia.
'IT'S A BETRAYAL'
It recently emerged the MoD spent £205m on hotels, food and transport in 2018 and that the military faces a £1.2bn black hole by 2022.
This comes amid reports this year that army bases were hit with 36,000 complaints in three years over disgusting living conditions including rat infestations.
Armed forces charities branded the lavish spending on trips abroad as a “betrayal.”

Tony Hayes, of Veterans Association UK, told the Mirror: “Spending of this kind is ethically wrong but it should be legally wrong.
“Troops are under-equipped and under-resourced while veterans are left on the heap, their benefits cut.”
Billy MacLeodm, founder of Veterans in Action, said: “It’s a betrayal. This could be spent on PTSD.
“For £800 I could take a veteran for a three-week expedition where we could get to the root of his problems.”
