A man was left with second-degree burn after a topless man splashed liquid at his back in an unprovoked attack.
Police released the CCTV footage in the hope of receiving more information about the incident, which happened at around 10.01pm on July 5.
In the 13-second video, Elmar Garscha, 57, can be seen walking on the sidewalk near the corner of West 47 Street and sixth avenue in New York City, US.
A topless man, who wears a black shorts, suddenly appears and runs up to Elmar from behind before pouring the unknown liquid over his shoulder and back.
The assailant quickly turns away and flees the scene while the victim turns around to see the attacker's face before losing his footing and falling backwards to the ground.
At least two people were walking past the area when the attack happened.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) said the victim was taken to the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center where he was treated for second-degree burns to his back.
Police did not say what liquid was thrown over the victim.

Elmar, a jeweller who has worked in the Diamond District for two decades, said he felt the shirtless man following him, so he stopped to rest his bad hip.
"I realised there was a guy following me and he was maybe 10 feet behind me and rushing towards me," he said. "Maybe five seconds later, the guy hit me with the water.
"The injuries are extensive, and it doesn't look that big of a cup.
"He burnt my entire back with second-degree burns, all over my shoulders."
He also told the police that the man was laughing when he ran away.
Officers described the attacker as an adult man, around 5ft 7ins, 130 pounds, with a light complexion, brown hair and brown eyes.

Earlier this month in Williamsburg of Brooklyn, a woman was sexually harassed on the street after being followed by a man who tackled her to the ground and "grabbed her butt" in a broad daylight attack.
