New fire engulfs Black Sea ammo depot after Storm Shadow missile barrage

Zelensky writes ‘Glory to Ukraine’ on Storm Shadow missile

A fierce blaze erupted near the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s ammunition depot at Troitska Bay in Sevastopol, Crimea, as a result of a missile strike during the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

Ukraine targeted the headquarters of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet on Friday, leaving one serviceman missing and causing extensive damage to the main building in Sevastopol, Crimea. This incident marks a troubling development in the protracted war, as tensions continue to rise in the region.

At least nine people were killed and 16 were injured as a result of Ukraine’s attack, Ukrainian military intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov told news outlet Voice of America.

The Crimean Peninsula, which was annexed by Russia from Ukraine in a controversial move in 2014, has consistently been a focal point of tensions between the two nations. Crimea has played a crucial role in supporting Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, with Sevastopol serving as the primary base for Russia’s Black Sea Fleet for over a century.

Ukraine’s strategy in recent weeks has shifted toward targeting naval facilities in Crimea as its summer counteroffensive makes gradual progress in eastern and southern Ukraine.

Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War have stressed the importance of these attacks, asserting that they are vital to erode Russian morale and weaken the country’s military capabilities.
