Queen’s favourite tipple can be mixed with gin – and costs less than a tenner

It’s not often we can say we have something in common with the Royals, but their love for a good drink proves they are just like us sometimes.

Whether it's a refreshing gin and tonic, a simple beer or a fresh cocktail, the Royal Family really enjoy celebrating special occasions or winding down after a stressful day with a drink in hand.

The Queen has been known to enjoy various drinks, but a former chef has revealed what her favourite tipple is. And it's not a martini or a sweet German wine, as previous reports suggested.

Here’s what you need to know about the Queen’s favourite drink and where you can find it for yourself.

What is the Queen's favourite drink?

The Queen's favourite drink is thought to be a gin and Dubonnet. Her former chef revealed exactly how the monarch enjoyed her drink.

Her Majesty's drink is made from two parts Dubonnet and one part gin with two cubes of ice and a lemon slice. She previously indulged in her favourite drink regularly, though she's reported to have knocked the drinking on its head in recent months on advice from her doctors.

In 2017, former royal chef Darren McGrady clarified that reports of the Queen drinking four cocktails a day was false. He had told CCN: "She'd be pickled if she drank that much. All I said was she likes a gin and Dubonnet. That's her favourite drink."

What does the Queen's favourite drink taste like and where can we buy it?

  • Royal Family's eating habits – from Queen's Tupperware meals to Diana's McDonald's trips

The drink is made from fortified wine blended with herbs, spices and quinine, and is described as quite sweet. The Queen recently granted Dubonnet a Royal Warrant, to show her love for the brand.

A Royal Warrant is a mark of recognition for companies that have regularly supplied goods to the Royal Family. Anyone given the Royal Warrant means they can apply a official crest to their products.

If you're eager to try Her Majesty's tipple of choice for yourself, you can find it at Waitrose, M&S and Amazon for just £9.50 a bottle.

What drinks do other members of the Royal Family enjoy?

Many members of the Royal Family also have drinks of choice. For instance, Prince Charles is thought to enjoy either a crisp gin and tonic or Scotch whiskey.

The Duchess of Cornwall not only enjoys a red wine, but she's also been president of the UK’s Vineyard Association since 2011.

Prince William is said to enjoy a simple pint, although he did used to sink sambuca shots and a cocktail at his favourite London club Mahiki named Treasure Chest – a heady mix of peach liquor, brandy and champagne – during his university days.
