A dog has been seized by authorities after it leapt a fence and attacked a little girl, leaving her in intensive care.

The attack happened in the town of Woodridge, Queensland, Australia and saw the six-year-old victim rushed to hospital in a serious condition.

The dog, a Bull Arab, is said to have leapt over a fence on Ormesby Street before mauling the child at around 4:30pm on Monday (April 10).

Emergency responders received calls about the horror animal attack and dashed to attend the scene where they found her with major abdominal, chest and shoulder injuries.

Reports claim she had been on a fence by a footpath and the dog had jumped up, pulling her down into a front garden.

She was saved by a relative – a man in his 20s – who jumped the fence and went in after the girl.

He received injuries to his leg in the melee but managed to get the dog off her.

The dog went on to attack him but he is in a stable condition after being taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

She, meanwhile, has been taken to Queensland Children's Hospital.

After the attack, images obtained by 9News emerged of the dog being taken away by authorities and put into the back of a van.

The Child Protection Investigation Unit has been notified about the incident.

Authorities remained at the scene until 6:30pm.
