‘Suspicious vehicle’ found near Westminster Abbey as ‘explosion’ heard

A suspicious vehicle outside Westminster Abbey is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police.

A robot has been deployed for a closer inspection of an alleged bomb threat as London's Queen Elizabeth II Centre has been evacuated as roads and tube stations are closed.

City of Westminster Police tweeted at around 4:30pm on Monday: "Police are at currently in the vicinity of #Westminster Abbey dealing with an ongoing incident involving what is believed to be a suspicious vehicle. A number of road closures are in place while emergency services deal with the incident."

A witness claims they heard something which sounded like a controlled explosion however the authorities are yet to confirm what action has been taken.

They captioned a photo taken high up from an overlooking building: "And now there is a bomb threat in Parliament Square with what sounded like a controlled explosion?"

Officers have forced shut the entrances to both Westminster and St James Park tube stations as the incident is ongoing.
