A teenage passenger was ejected and killed early Monday when the car he was riding in hit a tree and went airborne in Aurora.
The Aurora Police Department said the one-vehicle crash happened at about 2:40 a.m. at East Hampden Avenue and South Tower Road when the driver of an Infiniti sedan lost control in the intersection, veered right, hit a tree, went airborne, hit a light pole and then a retaining wall before coming to a stop.
The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Police are still investigating the crash, but initially said they believe high speeds contributed. No charges have been filed at this time.
The identities of the driver and passenger were not immediately released and police only said they were both boys. The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the boy who was killed.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Aurora police or Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
