‘She was closer to me than him’: Alan Carr’s ex-husband Paul Drayton slams comedian for claiming he’d won ‘custody’ of Adele after they ‘divvied up celeb pals’ amid ‘messy divorce’
Alan Carr’s estranged husband Paul Drayton has slammed the comedian for claiming that he’d won ‘custody’ of their pal Adele amid their ‘messy divorce’.
The comic, 46, and his Party Planner husband announced their separation in January 2022, after 13 years together and three years of marriage.
And despite stating they are still friends, Paul has called out Alan over his comments on the superstar after they allegedly ‘divvied up their celebrity friends’, with Paul stating that Adele was ‘closer to me’ than Alan.
Though Paul has previously stayed tight-lipped about his divorce rom the TV star, he’s now speaking out following Alan’s remarks on an episode of 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown last August in which he referenced their split.
Alan claimed that he’d ‘won custody’ of Adele – who married the pair at her Californian home in 2018 – amid their divorce, while he also suggested that Paul had taken ‘half of everything’.

Speaking to The Sun On Sunday, Paul said: ‘Adele is one of my best friends and the truth is she was closer to me than Alan. The comments he made were in bad taste. They really upset me, to be honest, as there was also the suggestion I was being greedy.
‘I texted Alan afterwards and said, “This is out of order, it’s upset me and it’s upset my mum”.’ He then confirmed that the Chatty Man star didn’t respond.
Paul continued: ‘I sent Adele the same clip and she replied, “Just take the high road, babe,” meaning just ignore it. She is amazing at giving advice, she really is. I know that whenever I need her, she will be there for me because she’s a loyal friend and an incredible person.’
Adele got herself ordained so that she can marry the pair at her mansion, with the singer paying for their special day as a gift.
Alan made the aforementioned Adele comments during an appearance on the Channel 4 comedy show in August, in which he took out a series of cut in half props and joked his ex’s lawyer demanded half of everything.
He quipped: ‘I’ve gone through a really spiteful, messy divorce. My ex’s lawyer said take half of everything, look at that.
‘But not just that, household items. Look at that, half a kettle, half a toaster, half a fondue set. All the cheese goes all over the floor.
‘Obviously, people want to know about . . . we’ve divvied up our celebrity friends. I get custody of Adele. Paul gets Gok at the weekends.

‘We’re still friends. I know he’s taken half of everything. But the one thing he can’t take is my dignity. Am I right?’
Paul added how he believes that one of the show’s sketch writers were responsible for the ‘really nasty’ comments.
He went on to add that his mother was unhappy about him being called ‘greedy’ on TV, adding that it ‘wasn’t the case at all’ over the suggestion that he wanted 50% of everything from their split.
Paul emphasised that Adele ‘didn’t cut me off’, saying that he and the Easy On Me hitmaker had ‘always been close’ and that would never change.
But he stated that several of Alan’s other friends are ‘no longer speaking to me’, which he says is understandable due to the ‘difficult’ situation.
He added of Alan that amid their divorce in April last year, they’d agreed what to settle on ‘fairly and amicably’ and confirmed they’re still pals who continue to share their dogs.
