Andrea McLean joined the Loose Women in 2007 and has become the longest-serving on the daytime ITV show. Back in November, the TV personality announced that she was leaving the ITV panel show after 13 years.

The 51-year-old explained that part of her believed she was making a “stupid decision” by leaving the programme.

The presenter said she was fearful about delving into the “unknown”.

The award-winning journalist left her presenting role in a bid to pursue her passion dedicating her time to her personal growth website, This Girl is On Fire.

Speaking on the Sliding Doors podcast, Andrea admitted her heart was no longer in presenting Loose Women.

“I felt is this the most stupid decision in the whole world because I’m so lucky that I’ve got a job,” Andrea said.

“One, I’ve got a job working in entertainment when theatres are closing and people are losing their work.”

She continued: “I had a steady job. I was working on daytime TV but my heart didn’t feel like it was the right thing to do.

“Even though my head was going, ‘mortgage, bills… hello, children to feed.'”

The small-screen star recalled that she typed an email to the show bosses detailing her decision to quit.

Andrea explained: “I’m 51 and this pandemic has shown us you do not know how long you’ve got.

“You don’t know what is around the corner. There are people smarter than you that have made all of these forecasts in 2020 and none of them happened.”

She added: “Just because you think awful things may be around the corner you need to flip it 180 and think maybe there are amazing things around the corner.

“I literally wrote the email and just stepped off into the unknown.”

Andrea announced her departure in November live on air, explaining that she wanted to try new things.

“You get one life. Are you living it the way that you want and are you doing everything that you want to do? Are you taking chances? And I realised, no,” she said before getting tearful.

Andrea added: “It was a really, really big decision to jump to see if I fall or fly.

“And I just thought, ‘I will never know unless I try.’

“So, I’m saying goodbye to Loose Women.”

Andrea went on to explain that following the release of her book, This Girl is on Fire, and the “incredible feedback,” she wanted to “bring it to life” and “help as many women as I can.”

Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV at 12.30pm.
