‘The first three months have been tough’: Catherine Tyldesley admits she’s been suffering from ‘sickness and terrible insomnia’ during second pregnancy

Catherine Tyldesley has revealed she’s been enduring a ‘tough’ pregnancy, which has seen her ‘be quite sick’ and suffer ‘terrible insomnia’.

The Coronation Street star, 38, who shares six-year-old son Alfie with husband Tom Pitfield, is expecting a baby girl in the spring of next year.

Appearing on Monday’s episode of Good Morning Britain With Lorraine, the actress said: ‘I’ve been quite sick. The first three months have been tough.

‘Terrible insomnia but I’m getting there. It will be feet up for this mama.’ 

She recently filmed ITV’s All Star Musicals but admitted her time on the show did not go as expected because ‘her organs were moving around’ due to her pregnancy.

Catherine claimed: ‘Everything changes when you’re singing and engaging different muscles and all the organs and moving around and it does feel quit different.’

The Salford native has been receiving training from ­choreographers and singing teachers in preparation for a performance.

They’ll be judged by singer Elaine Paige, 73, actress Samantha Barks, 31, and actor Trevor Dion ­Nicholas. 

Catherine revealed of her idol, who starred as Grizabella in Cats: ‘I felt like I learned so much from Elaine. It was an amazing opportunity.

‘Memory is one of my favourite songs and what better person to learn from?’

‘I loved singing so much and I’ve been really lucky with TV and film. Musical theatre is something I’ve always wanted to do but I’ve never had the time.

‘I love it and Elaine was one of my biggest inspirations, I love her, she’s amazing so when the opportunity came up I thought, “This is incredible.”‘

Author Fern Britton, actor Ben Miller, broadcaster Gyles Brandreth, presenter Anita Rani, and sports presenter Radzi Chinyanganya will join Catherine on the small screen in the Boxing Day special.

Catherine revealed her baby news to HELLO! magazine in October, admitting she ‘burst into tears’ when she found out she was pregnant.

She said: ‘We’re absolutely elated. We feel so lucky. When we found out, I just burst into tears.’

It comes after struggling with two years of experiencing phantom pregnancy symptoms, due to a hormonal imbalance.

Catherine revealed: ‘I took so many tests as I was convinced I was actually pregnant, but in fact my body was just mimicking a pregnancy.

‘So this time, even when my stomach was a bit swollen, I just thought: “Oh hormonal imbalances again!”

‘Tom was in bits when we found out we are having a little girl. He has suddenly gone all mushy. I’m sure she will have him wrapped around her little finger.’

Catherine’s condition – hyperemesis gravidarum – is ‘not like morning sickness as you feel sick all day’, she said, explaining that Kate Middleton also has it.

She explained: ‘It is the same thing Kate had, although I have not been as extreme as her. I was put on medication and that has been a godsend as I feel so much better.’
