Catherine Zeta-Jones reflects on the role that got away

‘For many years I was Bond material’: Catherine Zeta-Jones, 53, reflects on how she was born to play the role of a female 007

Catherine Zeta-Jones recently opened up about a role she believed she was born to play, declaring that she ‘had the chops to be a female Bond.’

The Oscar-Winning star of Chicago told The Telegraph that if only the timing had been right, she could have played the role.

She explained, ‘For many years, I was Bond material. Actually, I used to dream of being a female spy when I was a kid – if I didn’t make it as an actress.’

‘Then, later, I had big aspirations, and this was before there was even a female Doctor Who.’

And although the role was ‘the one that got away’, Catherine has been on a professional roll since.

She recently starred in the popular Addams Family Netflix TV series, Wednesday – in which she plays Morticia Addams.

The popular eight-episode series was filmed in Romania during the pandemic and it is set to be a treat for any parent or child looking for a fantastic family TV series.

And Catherine doesn’t plan to stop there, as she is also set to star in the long-awaited Disney+TV spin-off to the hit Nicholas Cage movies – National Treasure: Edge Of History.

The bond revelation comes after Catherine recently reflected on the ‘up-and-downs’ of her marriage to husband Michael Douglas, 78, whom she wed in 2000, during the interview with The Telegraph.

The actress briefly separated from the Hollywood star in 2013 following his tongue cancer battle and her bipolar disorder diagnosis. They reconciled in 2014.

During the interview, she said: ‘It’s impossible for there not to be ups and downs if you live with the same person and wake up with them every day.

‘I’ve been waking up to Mike for nearly 25 years. I love being married but it’s a crazy thing when you really think about it. “Will you marry me?” “Sure!”

‘But then you think about the Chanel purse you spent a fortune on, and actually I don’t really like it anymore – I’ll put it up for resale.’
