URUGUAY are in action against Portugal in the 2022 World Cup tonight.
But the appearance of four stars above their crest on their shirts have left many wondering why.
Why do Uruguay have four stars on their shirts?
Uruguay have four stars to celebrate the two times they have won the World Cup AND the two times they have won gold at the Olympics.
- They won the World Cup in 1930 and 1950.
- And they won gold in the 1924 and 1928 Olympics.
Before the first World Cup in 1930 the Olympics was seen as the most coveted prize in world football so that is why Uruguay keep the stars.
