GBBO: Paul Hollywood walks off after technical challenge goes wrong
Channel 4 viewers have slammed The Great British Bake Off, claiming the remaining contestants were “set up to fail” during the latest technical challenge.
As the bakers dived head first into Dessert Week, Paul Hollywood asked them to create multiple steamed treacle puddings in one hour and thirty minutes.
The technical challenge turned out to be quite difficult due to the short time period, with most of the bakers producing raw and undercooked puddings.
However, many fans couldn’t help but defend the contestants and instead criticised the show for making it “borderline impossible.”
Taking to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, fans let out their frustrations with the programme.

One person typed on X: “Set up to fail. Not enough time given when they all practically serve up under baked treacle puds #bakeoff.”
Another chimed in: “They need a pressure cooker or more time!! Ridiculous challenge. #bakeoff.”
A third commented: “Maybe if Paul Hollywood set a technical with a REASONABLE time limit, instead of making it borderline impossible for most people, the bakers would perform somewhere above “terrible”. They do this every year. #bakeoff.”

A fourth said: “I’d like to know how long it took to make the ones that Prue & Paul showed ahead of the challenge? I suspect it was more than 90 mins & that the person making it was given full instructions.”
A fifth person also penned: “I think that counts as poor challenge setting. Give them enough time to give them a chance! (Funny though!).”
A sixth user also similarly said: “Maybe if they’ve all mostly failed it wasn’t the bakers fault, it was the task and recipe set.”
Despite the technical challenge being described as a “car crash”, one viewer did say: “That was the happiest technical EVER and certainly brought everyone together.”
The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4 on Tuesdays at 8pm.
