Coronation Street fans gutted after shock DOUBLE exit which saw a fan favourite wave goodbye to Weatherfield
Coronation Street fans were left gutted on Friday night as the soap aired a double exit.
Fan favourite Evelyn Plummer left Weatherfield with drug addict daughter Cassie as she vowed to help get her clean amid her latest overdose.
The exit coincides with actress Maureen Lipman’s temporary exit from the show, after it was earlier revealed she’d be taking a month-long hiatus to star in West End play Rose.
And as the soap caught up with real life, dramatic scenes showed the moment Evelyn decided to exit the street in a bid to help her estranged daughter, played by Claire Sweeney.
Watching the emotional scenes unfold, viewers were quick to share their upset over Evelyn’s exit, with many hoping she’d make a return soon.

Cassie arrived in Weatherfield this week and soon shocked to discover Tyrone (Alan Halsall) was her son, but her mother begged her to stay away following her latest heroin overdose.
Tyrone had grown up believing that Jackie Dobbs, but discovered in 2018 after her death that he was in fact adopted.

After he then reached out to his grandmother Evelyn, she told him that his biological mother Cassie was dead, having not trusted her daughter to raise her son – with Evelyn having at the time taken the step of abandoning him at a police station.
Having spotted and ignored a dishevelled Cassie lingering on the Street, Everylin later received a call from the hospital where her daughter was taken.
Viewers then learned that Evelyn had tried to help her daughter get clean multiple times, including as recently as last Christmas.
Evelyn was quick to berate her daughter for coming to the Street, and was stunned to learn Cassie turned to drugs when she discovered Tyrone was living with her.

Later as Everyn arrived home, Tyrone told her someone called ‘Cath’ had come to see her and was shocked to see Cassie grinning at her from the sofa.
After brushing her off as a friend of an old neighbour, Evelyn got Tyrone out of the way.
But after a shivering Cassie, still struggling with the withdrawals from drugs, said that Tyrone was better off believing she was dead, Evelyn made a huge decision.
Evelyn later announced that, having not got the money for rehab, she’d rented them a flat away from Weatherfield, where they were to stay together until Cassie got sober.

The matriarch then told Tyrone that she needed to leave for a while to help ‘Cath’ get a neighbour called James out of trouble.
As the mother and daughter made to leave the cobbles, a grateful Cassie vowed that she will get clean and won’t let her mother down.
