Former Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley has candidly opened up about her weight loss journey as she struggled to lose two and a half stone following the birth of her second child last year.
The doting mum welcomed her daughter Iris last April but admitted that following the birth she didn’t “recognise herself” anymore, after having gained so much weight during her pregnancy.
However, thanks to a healthy and sustained diet and exercise regime, Catherine was able to once again slim back down to her pre-pregnancy weight, something which she confessed made her feel far more like herself again.
Taking to Instagram to document her new physique, the talented actress shared a snap of herself wearing a black crop top and figure hugging leggings before explaining how her body had changed while carrying her precious little one.
Catherine wrote: “She’s back!!!!! This time last year I was 2.5 stones heavier. I’d given birth a few weeks ago and didn’t recognise myself anymore."
She then continued: “I suffered with hyperemesis and hormonal insomnia throughout my pregnancy. Which meant I averaged around 2 hours sleep a night for 6 months. We tried everything to help me sleep/feel better and nothing worked. I felt Dreadful.”
The star also reflected on her first pregnancy with son Alfie, in which she had suffered far less complications, as she explained: “Whilst I was pregnant with Alfie I felt great and was weight training till I was 8 months pregnant. I felt strong and recovery was so fast. With Iris I felt so weak and vulnerable.
“Combined with two failed epidurals and needing plenty of rehabilitation for my spine and pelvis- recovery has been much longer this time.”
Thankfully however, she soon revealed she was back to her old self, and felt far better having returned to the gym and re-adopting her active lifestyle.
She continued: “It’s been really hard at times but for me – But – having children means I want to give them the best version of me, and I want to live for as long as I can.
“I train and eat well for me AND them. I train so I’m mentally and physically strong for whatever role I play next. I train so I can feel good about myself.”
Catherine also revealed there was an added psychological element to her new routine, as she added: “I train to relieve stress. I train so I sleep better. It’s been worth the slog- and I’m showing up each day to maintain things- mentally and physically.”
Concluding the post with a call to arms to other mums out there who may be struggling, Catherine added: “Mommas… I know it’s hard right now- but you CAN feel like you again. Keep going!!!! Do not give up!! Show up for yourself AND the kids.”
Following the post, Catherine was inundated with messages of support from other mums, including a few famous faces who couldn’t hide their enthusiasm for all she had achieved.
I’m A Celebrity winner Giovanna Fletcher wrote: “back like she never left!!! What a journey! Xxxx”.
Meanwhile Gemma Atkinson, who is currently pregnant with her second child, commented with a string of praise emojis.
