EXCLUSIVE

Channel Nine sports presenter Danika Mason was asked to give back her diamond engagement ring to fiancé Todd Liubinskas after she suddenly called off their wedding.

Daily Mail Australia can reveal that, just days after the couple split, a third party contacted Mason on behalf of Liubinskas and told her to immediately hand over the eye-catching ring.

Mason had called off her wedding to the Bondi-based personal trainer just weeks before the ceremony was due to be held on October 27 at Greystone Estate in the NSW Hunter Valley.

‘(The third party) insisted she doesn’t discuss the split publicly to the media and asked her to return the ring,’ a source close to the Mason camp said.

In the wake of the break-up, Mason has hunkered down at their South Maroubra home with the couple’s chocolate Labrador Charlie, while Liubinskas has sought refuge at his parents home in Sydney’s inner west.

But the Mail can reveal Mason has found alternative plans for what to do the day she was supposed to celebrate her wedding.

Todd Liubiskas (pictured left) used a family member as a mediator to his estranged ex within days of the split to ask for the engagement ring back.

Yvonne O’Keefe – better known as Yvonne Sampson – will join Danika Mason on a girls trip to Bali next month on what was supposed to have been her wedding day

Mason is planning a special escape to Bali with Fox Footy presenter Yvonne Sampson the week the nuptials were meant to take place.

The pair are close friends, having previously celebrated O’Keefe’s hen party together in the US in 2018.

The exact reason for Mason and Liubinskas’ split is unclear with the footy media world alight with contradictory and unconfirmed rumours about what happened.

What is known for certain is that Liubinskas wanted the engagement ring back on the grounds that it was considered a family heirloom.

The ring itself was a custom piece designed by acclaimed Sydney jeweller Sam Rahme.

Prior the reports of a split the Nine presenter appeared on the Sunday Footy show without her engagement ring.

Daily Mail Australia previously revealed the couple were due to tie the knot in a star-studded wedding at the end of October at the lavish Greystone Estate venue.

The picturesque venue which is set 10 acres down an olive-tree lined driveway and ‘designed specifically to host lavish events’.

A post on the venue’s official Instagram account advertised the sudden vacancy as a last minute opportunity for last minute couples

‘A rare opportunity has become available for a chance to have your wedding at Greystone Estate – with 50% off!’ an ad, obtained by Daily Mail, said.

The last-minute wedding cancellation no doubt came as a surprise to many of the couple’s celebrity guests.

They were expected to include sports presenter colleagues James Bracey and Clint Stanaway, plus Liubinskas’ close mate and 440 Run Club co-founder Trent Knox.

The wedding was set to be officiated over by Seven News reporter and marriage celebrant Grace Fitzgibbon, the daughter of retired Federal Labor MP Joel Fitzgibbon.

Mason and Liubinskas couple had been engaged for two years after Liubinskas popped the question in July 2021.

Mason remained tight-lipped when approached by Daily Mail Australia this week.

She was noticeably absent from the rugby league’s night of nights, the Dally M awards on Wednesday evening.

However, Mason is expected to return to TV screens for the NRL Grand Final on Sunday.
