‘Your regular posts and incredible book with Naomi truly helped me & my mums relationship in ways that you couldn’t even imagine. No longer did she feel she was alone and finally was able to talk to me about it’.

‘I then got the wink from the universe a week later when I saw you on Radio 2 where you were talking about it all so gracefully, and a week later mum was speaking with Naomi at her clinic’.

It comes after Davina  opened up on the shame she felt around taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in order to help other women become better informed about the treatment.

The presenter explained how she felt ‘ashamed’ to be relying on a drug and worried that people would think her reason was vanity-based.

Writing in The Mirror, she said: ‘I felt old, dried up, and ashamed that I couldn’t grin and bear it when I was so tough. I’d had three home births, but perimenopause floored me. And there I was, taking a drug to make me feel better. That’s how I perceived it.’

She added: ‘I really believed people would think my decision to take HRT was based on some sort of vanity – that I wanted to appear or look or feel younger.’

She wrote that she soon educated herself on HRT and reframed her thinking, realising that the treatment could help her extreme menopause symptoms.

She said: ‘I am not trying to turn into a superhuman, I’m not doing it to be thin, and I’m not doing it to make my face look younger. I’m doing it because my world was falling apart.’

What is menopause?

Menopause is defined as the changes a woman goes through just before and after she stops her periods and is no longer able to get pregnant naturally.

Some women go through this time with few, if any, symptoms, around 60 percent experience symptoms resulting in behavioral changes and one in four will suffer severely.

Common symptoms include hot flushes, night sweats, vaginal dryness leading to discomfort during sex, disrupted sleep, decreased sex drive, problems with memory and concentration and mood swings.

Menopause happens when your ovaries stop producing as much of the hormone estrogen and no longer release an egg each month.

American experts say women go through the menopause at the age of 51 years on average, although it can begin when someone is anywhere between 40 and 58 years old.
