So long Indy! Disney confirms Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny WILL be Harrison Ford’s last outing as the whip-cracking adventurer
Just days after Disney released the new trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the studio has also confirmed it will be the final film in the franchise.
The studio issued a press release which referred to the upcoming film starring Harrison Ford as, ‘the highly anticipated final installment of the beloved franchise.’
Director James Mangold also confirmed the studio’s statement with one of his own in the press release.
‘My legendary collaborators and I are very excited to share a brand new and final Indiana Jones adventure with you!’ Mangold said.
The film is slated for release in theaters on June 30, though it was also announced last week it will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

While the franchise appears to be over on the big screen, there is a possibility the franchise could continue on the small screen.
It was reported in November that an Indiana Jones TV series was in early development on the Disney Plus streaming service.
Early reports revealed the show would not focus on Harrison Ford’s title character, though it’s believed that the series has been indefinitely shelved.
The 80-year-old Ford has already moved on from the franchise, taking over the Thunderbolt Ross role from the late William Hurt in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is set in the year 1969, following Ford’s Indiana Jones set against the backdrop of the American ‘space race.’
Jones is said to be, ‘uneasy’ about the American government enlisting former Nazis in their race to beat the Russians to the moon.
Franchise newcomers Phoebe Waller-Bridge joins the sequel as Helena Shaw, Indy’s goddaughter, along with Mads Mikkelsen as Jurgen Voller, an ex-Nazi who now works for NASA.
Other newcomers include Antonio Banderas as Renaldo, a friend of Indy, Thomas Kretschmann as Colonel Weber, Toby Jones as Basil Shaw and Boyd Holbrook as Klaber.

Joining Ford is franchise regular John Rhys-Davies as Sallah, the title character’s longtime friend.
Disney has been developing the sequel for quite some time, announcing in 2016 that Indiana Jones 5 would hit theaters on July 19, with Ford starring and Spielberg directing from a script by David Koepp (Jurassic Park, among others).
The project was pushed up and delayed several times, with Jonathan Kasdan (Rogue One) replacing Koepp as the writer in July 2018.
Disney pushed the release to its current date on July 9, 2021 shortly after Kasdan came aboard, but he was later replaced by Dan Fogelman (This Is Us), while Koepp later confirmed he was working on the project again too.
The Indiana Jones franchise kicked off with 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark, which took in a whopping $390.1 million worldwide from just a $18 million budget.
The 1984 sequel Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ($331.1 million worldwide, $28 million budget) followed, as did 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade ($474.3 million worldwide, $48 million budget).
After nearly a 20 year hiatus, 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull took in $790.6 million worldwide from a $185 million budget.
No box office projections have surfaced yet for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny quite yet.
