Escape to the Chateau's Dick on reaction to series ending
Escape to the Chateau stars Dick and Angel Strawbridge have opened up about their money struggles after buying and moving into their forever home. The television stars moved to France with their children in 2015 and purchased the Chateau de la Motte Husson in Pays de la Loire.
The show saw the pair transform the majestic property from a building that needed plenty of work into their home. Despite finally having the home of their dreams, the couple insist it wasn’t easy to have a fresh start.
Speaking to Hello!, Angel, 45, said: “We’ve not done anything that we didn’t think was right in the long run and I think that is the key part to it.”
Dick, 64, agreed and added: “The first year was the hardest, but we couldn’t have done it any differently. I was working a lot and Angela had to run the renovations.
“It was a very different year because I needed to get the income to get us started and jump-start everything.

Some people buy a chateau and have got a big wedge of money in the bank and they can actually just sort of get on with it. We weren’t in that situation. So that’s why I was away earning,” the Channel 4 star explained.
Over the last eight years, Dick and Angel have managed to transform the 19th-century chateau in France into an incredible home as well as a wedding venue.
Back in 2015, the couple made the decision to relocate their young family, consisting of the pair and their two children, Arthur, 10, and seven-year-old Dorothy, from their two-bed flat in Essex.
They moved to the French region Martigné-sur-Mayenne and purchased the derelict 45-bedroom property at the bargain price of £280,000.
